Devlog 03: Refining
Introduction
Hi there! Welcome to our 3rd devlog for Soup Showdown! This week, our focus has been on refining and integrating our prototypes as a team. The hitting mechanic wasn’t feeling as intuitive as we’d like, so we’re making adjustments to ensure it’s fun. Additionally, we’ve ramped up work on our art bible, technical document, and sound bible.
Art
Our artists have been hard at work defining the game’s visual style. Creating our shader has proven more challenging than expected, so we’re dedicating extra time to refining it while also exploring alternative options in case our initial approach doesn’t work out. Our next big step is finalizing the art bible and completing the shader.

Programming
The main challenge this week has been improving the hitting mechanic. Through testing, we found that it wasn’t as intuitive as we had hoped, so we’re iterating on how ingredients move and how players interact with them. One major change we’re testing is adjusting the difficulty of hitting ingredients and modifying the size of the playing field.
Additionally, we’ve begun merging our prototypes into a more structured gameplay loop. Our goal is to develop a fully playable version where players can smoothly hit ingredients into the soup pot and experience a complete win/lose game cycle.
Sound
Our sound designer has been developing the game’s overall audio identity, focusing on a cartoony soundtrack that complements the game’s visuals.
That’s all for this week! Thank you for following our journey, and we’ll see you in the next devlog!
