Devlog 06: Production!

Hey everyone! Welcome to our 6th devlog for Soup Showdown. This week has been packed with progress, from new models and textures to UI updates and power-ups. Let’s dive in!

Art

Our artists have been hard at work creating new models, including a shoe, stinky cheese, tomato, coffee mug, apple core, and ghost pepper. The mouse and ladle have been textured, and we finalized our shader, allowing us to easily procedurally texture models. However, important or stationary models—like the mouse and furniture—will receive some hand-painted details to enhance lighting effects and add extra polish.

Programming

Some exciting new gameplay elements are coming together! We implemented:

- Coffee power-up functionality ☕
- Ghost pepper boil-over effect🔥
- Pre-game UI
- Pause menu UI

However, the win screen isn’t working just yet, so that’s on our list to fix. Ingredient throwing, interactions, and cauldron mechanics were completed last week, so now we’re focusing on refining the experience.

Additionally, the programmers will be revisiting some aspects of the game’s design. Right now, the game is feeling a bit bland, so we’re stepping back to reassess what can be improved to make it more engaging and exciting. Expect some tweaks and new ideas in the coming weeks!

Sound

Our sound designer has been busy creating new SFX, including:

- **Player smack sound** ✋
- **Footstep sounds** 👣
- **A despawn sound** 🎵

That’s all for this week! Thanks for following along—we’ll see you in the next devlog! 🥣🔥
