Devlog 05: First Sprint!
Introduction
Hi there! Welcome to our 5th devlog for Soup Showdown. We’ve made great progress this week, with key gameplay mechanics and art assets starting to take shape. Our programmers have been implementing core mechanics, while our artists continue to bring the game’s world to life.
Art
Our artists have been busy modeling ingredients, environment pieces, and the player character. We’re also refining the shader outline, as it’s currently too noisy for our liking. Finding an efficient workflow without hand-painting has been challenging, but we did hand-paint the wall and floor patterns to add a warm, handcrafted feel to the game’s world. As we move forward, we’ll continue fine-tuning the shader and polishing our assets.
Programming
This week, our programmers implemented player movement, the ingredient scoring system, and ingredient physics. We also completed the functionality for the cauldron, allowing it to receive ingredients and be stirred. These systems mark a big step toward a fully playable version of the game.
Sound
The sound bible is complete, giving us a well-defined direction for the game’s audio. Our sound designer has been creating the music and sfx, occasionally getting sidetracked by cursed Soundly sounds.
That’s all for this week! Thank you for following our journey—see you in the next devlog!
